Novel Treatment Algorithm for Allergic Rhinitis
This show concentrates on the novel treatment algorithm for allergic rhinitis made by the EUFOREA expert teams. Until recently the guidelines for treating allergic rhinitis did not reflect the complexity of care and they were not widely followed. Earlier this year a new algorithm for treating the disease was published in the world allergy organisation journal and the Rhinology Journal which promises to transform the management of the condition.
Professor Pete Smith, Leading Allergist and Professor in Clinical Medicine at Griffith University in Australia, believes that there is a need in creating a new treatment algorithm for allergic rhinitis as it did not exist yet that would cover the complexity of care of allergic rhinitis. Many algorithms are uni-dimensional but the new treatment algorithm for allergic rhinitis works differently by engaging all stakeholders from patients to pharmacists, to primary care physicians, their GPs and also specialists whether they be allergists or ENT specialists or respiratory physicians.
Professor Ulrich Wahn, a member of the Executive Board of EUFOREA, lecturer and consultant in paediatric pneumology and allergology, claims that this new algorithm puts the patients very much closer at the centre of care for good reasons. Both Professor Pete Smith and Professor Ulrich Wahn consider this EUFOREA algorithm to be unique, matching up patients needs and awareness of needs.
