News Update on ICAR-RS 2021

This show is dedicated to the international consensus statement on allergy and rhinology rhinosinusitis or ICAR2021. The first ICAR statement was published 5 years ago and since then, we have witnessed enormous changes and progresses in understanding and treating rhinologic diseases. This statement contains the most complete and up-to-date information on what causes rhinosinusitis and how it should be treated based on research and scientific evidence.

Dr Richard Orlandi, Professor of Otolaryngology from the Department of Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Utah, USA, explains his excitement around the ICAR2021 document because of its comprehensiveness. This document helps us to understand the effect of rhinosinusitis and how much it affects the quality of life worldwide. There is a relation between ICAR2021 and EPOS2020, where the EPOS document is additionally comprehensive robust in its literature review and the two complement one another.

In the EPOS document there is more of a reliance on basic science and extrapolating from the knowledge that we have and pushing that out a bit further in making recommendations. Looking at ICAR2021 and EPOS2020 together we may have an additional comprehensiveness in addressing these topics.
