Latest European Guidelines for Rhinosinusitis and EPOS2020

This show is all about the new European guidelines for Rhinosinusitis and nasal polyps or EPOS2020. The EPOS2020 Chairs, Professor Valerie Lund and Professor Wytske Fokkens, about why they got involved, what drove them and the exciting outcomes they achieved.

EPOS2020 was drawn up by an international cohort of experts and built on the success of the previous EPOS papers. The core objective of the guidelines is to provide comprehensive practical collaborative management strategies for rhinosinusitis based on a combination of evidence-based and clinically relevant research.

Professor Wytske Fokkens, Professor at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at the academic medical centre in Amsterdam and EPOS Chair at EUFOREA, started this journey in 2005 and undertook this enormous task to prepare a new/updated EPOS version based on newly available data gathered by the team. After gathering all the available evidence, it has been proposed an integrated care pathway for the management of patients with vital sinusitis. The updated EPOS 2020 guidelines had a very positive impact.

It is interesting to see how Covid-19 has increasingly impacted the dissemination of the EPOS2020 content. It was unknown the results of the EPOS2020 dissemination in relation to the current pandemic situation. Professor Lund states that the lockdown may actually helped in increasing the interest in the EPOS document.
